While it is true that electronic health-record use has yet to reach critical mass, academia has once again missed the point in its analysis.
Ask any patient about duplicate testinglabs and X-rays, which are done repeatedly since originals can't be found. You don't have to dig any deeper than this to justify EHRs.
If several hundred dollars per patient, plus reduction of infections and other problems are eliminated, that is enough to justify the investment.
Industry is not always the bad guy!
