Four physician informaticists, a team of four physicians from Catholic Healthcare West and the three-hospital Calgary Health Region received the 2007 Physician-Computer AMDIS Awards for excellence and achievement in applied medical informatics at the 16th Annual Physician-Computer Connection Symposium of the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems that opened Wednesday in Ojai, Calif.
"The key thing for us is these are the physicians who have worked on the front line of implementation," said William Bria, chairman of AMDIS and chief medical information officer at Shriners Hospitals for Children System, based in Tampa, Fla. "These individuals have actually translated from the theory of what electronic systems could be or should be and what is. In a number of situations they've gone beyond implementation to translating knowledge into the improvement of clinical care. The 'A' in AMDIS is for applied. We've always been about people who do."
