Pediatrician Kevin Churchwell, 45, has been named chief executive officer of Nashvilles 216-bed Monroe Carell Jr. Childrens Hospital at Vanderbilt University.
Churchwell has been the hospitals interim CEO since January, when former CEO Jim Shmerling left to become president and CEO of the Childrens Hospital of Denver. In his new position, Churchwell will be responsible for the hospitals day-to-day operations, financial performance and growth. Leading a successful expansion of the facility, which aims to add 100 additional beds by years end, will be among his first tasks.
As interim CEO, Churchwell spearheaded the opening of Monroe Carells pediatric Level 1 trauma center earlier this month. -- by Shawn Rhea
