Two Savannah, Ga., healthcare systems have formed a task force to address issues concerning uncompensated healthcare services for the uninsured and underinsured. Memorial Health, which operates the 488-bed Memorial Health University Medical Center, and St. Josephs/Candler, which operates two hospitals: one with 292 beds and another with 221, will examine legislative issues affecting reimbursement, opportunities for sharing medical information to improve quality, and possible savings and efficiency measures such as joint purchasing, a news release said.
There has been no timeline set on the panels activities, and the release noted that the task force will avoid any topics that adversely affect the competitiveness of the two systems. Also, a question-and-answer document explaining the task forces purpose stated that the panel will have no authority to make or implement decisions and will only study issues and make recommendations. -- by Andis Robeznieks
