Ophthalmologist John Varga has been named by information technology services provider and systems integrator Electronic Data Systems, Plano, Texas, to the position of medical director of its Electronic Health Records Center of Excellence in Warwick, R.I., the company has announced.
Varga comes to the company from a healthcare IT consulting firm, JHV Consulting, Falls Church, Va., that he founded in 2003 after retiring from the Navy in 2001 with 20 years of service, according to a company news release and his resume posted on the Internet. At JHV, Varga did consulting work for the Military Health Service and the Tricare Management Activity. He also worked in various capacities for IT vendors Cerner, 3M Health Information Systems and Apptis.
Varga has a medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He received a master's degree in health services administration from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 2001. -- by Joseph Conn / HITS staff writer
