The Healthcare Financial Management Association is today wrapping up its Annual National Institute in San Diego, possibly with record attendance of about 4,500 when all the numbers are finally counted, officials said. More than 360 companies exhibited this year.
Mary Beth Briscoe, executive director of finance at UAB Health System in Birmingham, Ala., was installed as chairman of the HFMA, urging financial colleagues to acknowledge their potential to make a difference, inspired in large part by her favorite movie Its a Wonderful Life. While we may not deliver direct patient care, we can provide support and peace of mind to frustrated and worried patients, she said.
Robert Broadway, vice president of corporate strategy at Bethesda Healthcare System in Boynton Beach, Fla., was installed as chairman-elect. Catherine Jacobson, senior vice president of finance, chief financial officer and treasurer at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, was installed as secretary-treasurer.
