On the subject of physicians skipping training on a vital patient-care tool like an emergency medical record, I have to ask Sylvia Landry, whose letter was certainly full of passion, whether it's OK for a physician to skip seminars on new, life-saving procedures? Should they just "wing it," then complain when the patient dies? Because, like it or not, information technology is a very large part of this century's healthcare equation. Information technology is every bit a valid craft, and it deserves respect.
It is no longer optional.
