The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has approved the Colorado Hospital Associations implementation plan for a state hospital report card that calls for online publication by Nov. 30.
The report card was mandated by legislation passed last year, and initial measures to be posted include mortality rates for conditions such as congestive heart failure and procedures such as coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG; volume statistics for procedures such as CABG and carotid endarterectomy; patient-safety data such as rates for bed sores and post-operative sepsis; and hospitalization rates for ambulatory care-sensitive conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Data from the most recent three-year period will be collected and analyzed. The initial report cards will be based on data from 2004-06.
The plan calls for assembling focus groups to test the usability of the report card Web site before it is launched to make sure it is complete and understandable. -- by Andis Robeznieks
