Donald Smithburg, who has led the Louisiana State University Hospitals Health Care Services division since August 2004, has been reassigned to an untitled position within the LSU system, effective immediately.
It was an administrative decision, and we do not discuss personnel matters, said Charles Zewe, a spokesman for the LSU system. LSU operates eight public hospitals that are managed by the Health Care Services division.
The 47-year-old Smithburg will continue to earn his current salary of $384,000 per year until his contract as executive vice president and chief executive officer expires on Aug. 30, said Zewe, who added that Smithburg had been notified last year that his contract may not be renewed. The system will consider Smithburgs status when his contract ends, Zewe said.
Smithburg, who was unavailable for comment on Monday, has been reassigned to a position that reports directly to William Jenkins, president of the LSU system. Meanwhile, Michael Butler, previously chief medical officer for LSUs Health Care Services division, has started as acting CEO. -- by Jessica Zigmond
