A final comment period on the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology's proposed certification criteria and test scripts for inpatient electronic health records opens today and runs through June 19.
Comments will only be accepted on changes made to a previous version of the criteria, a CCHIT news release said. The commission's board will approve final documents at a June 25 meeting, and then CCHIT will start accepting applications for certification under the new criteria Aug. 1.
On the ambulatory side, CCHIT has certified 81 EHRs offered by 89 companies, with some vendors having marketing arrangements where they will sell a re-branded version of an EHR developed by another company.
CCHIT, a Chicago-based, not-for-profit organization formed in 2004, entered into a three-year, $7.5 million contract with HHS in 2005 to provide testing for various healthcare IT products.
