Biomet, a Warsaw, Ind.-based manufacturer of surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic devices, recently acknowledged that the U.S. Justice Department earlier this month subpoenaed the company for documents related to products manufactured and sold by its subsidiary EBI from January 1999 to present.
Disclosure of the subpoena appeared in a report filed by Biomet with the Securities and Exchange Commission. No information was provided about the nature of the subpoena or which devices are affected, but EBI, based in Parsippany, N.J., produces a variety of spinal devices and orthopedic support products, including spinal implants and braces. Biomet officials did not return calls for comment by deadline. -- by Shawn Rhea
