Ron Anderson, M.D., president and chief executive officer at Parkland Health & Hospital System, Dallas, says he agrees to a contract that gives him the option of finishing his career at the 806-bed system. Anderson, 60, a physician, agreed to a two-year term with the option of extending the contract for three more years until he turns 65. He has served in the position since January 1982. The agreement includes a base salary of $555,000; an additional 35% in incentives for meeting performance standards; and a $700 monthly car allowance. Several Parkland board members tried to oust Anderson in 2004, but he held on to his position. In 2005, readers of Modern Physician voted Anderson the most powerful physician-executive in healthcare. He says his job has been a sometimes difficult "political ride."
