A large healthcare reform measure reached Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire on Saturday, with Democrats saying it sets the state on a path toward lowering costs, while Republicans say it doesnt do enough to help small businesses.
The bill, based on recommendations of the governors Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Costs and Access, will take Washington state forward to be a national leader on healthcare policy, said Democratic state Sen. Karen Keiser, who chairs the Senate Health and Long-term Care Committee.
Gregoire requested the measure and is expected to sign it.
Among other things, the measure directs state-run health programs to provide incentives for medical providers who use procedures that are cost-effective and have been proven to work. -- by the Associated Press
