AOL co-founder Steve Case announced Thursday the full launch of Revolution Health, a new Internet healthcare portal and personal health record venture, the acquisition of a developer of Web pages for patients and an alliance with the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Privately held Revolution Health, based in Washington, D.C., acquired Chicago-based TLContact, a private company, that was founded in 2000. It is the developer of CarePages, a service that enables patients to quickly build their own Web pages so they can communicate with friends and family outside the hospital. Both RevolutionHealth.com and Care Pages are free to consumers.
RevolutionHealth.com was given a "soft launch" in January. Since then, the site has attracted more than 1 million visitors, Case said, and given developers a chance to add features and "work out some kinks."
