Physicians filing claims for patients with UnitedHealthcare insurance now can do so in real time, thanks to a new claims submission Web site.
UnitedHealthcare, a division of Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealth Group, launched the service in January. Doctors enter the patient's eligibility information and codes for care received during the visit, and UnitedHealthcare will confirm costs in less than 10 seconds.
The cost information includes the total allowed price of the procedure based on the contract between the insurer and the provider, the reimbursement amount and any fees the patient might owe.
"Real-time adjudication lowers costs for consumers and physicians while reducing one of the most significant hassles of healthcare: the billing, collection and settlement of a healthcare transaction," said David Wichmann, UnitedHealth Group's president of individual and employer markets group, in a written statement.
