NightHawk Radiology Holdings, a provider of radiology interpretation services, has paid $53 million to acquire the Radlinx Group, an Irving, Texas-based company that provides off-site radiology interpretation services to 303 hospitals and medical practices nationwide.
The purchase follows NightHawks February acquisition of Teleradiology Diagnostic Services in Arcadia, Calif., and brings NightHawks customer base to 1,300 hospitals nationwide, according to a news release issued by the Coeur dAlene, Idaho-based company.
The strategic acquisition of the Radlinx Group, with their doctors located across the U.S., should help alleviate concerns the industry may have about Medicare (radiology) interpretations being performed outside the U.S., said Tim Mayleben, NightHawk executive vice president and chief operating officer in the news release. Prior to the recent purchase of Teleradiology, NightHawks radiologists were largely located offshore in Australia and Switzerland. With the Radlinx acquisition, 50% of NightHawks physicians will be U.S.-based.
The deal is expected to bring an additional $17 million to $19 million in revenue to NightHawk this year. -- by Shawn Rhea
