The CMS today announced the posting of detailed specifications for 74 measures included in the 2007 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative. The initiative, established by the 2006 tax extender bill, sets up a financial incentive for physicians to participate in a voluntary quality reporting program.
Those who successfully report a designated set of quality measures on claims for dates of service from July 1 to December 31 may earn a bonus payment, subject to a cap, of 1.5% of total allowed charges for covered Medicare physician fee-schedule services. The specifications are to help eligible physicians identify measures applicable to their practices and to prepare for submission of quality data in advance of the July 1 start date of the program. -- by Jennifer Lubell
