William Showalter has been named the new chief operating officer of the Mercy Information Systems Division, the consolidated IT division of 20-hospital Sisters of Mercy Health System, effective April 16, Barb Meyer, executive director for corporate communications confirmed.
Mercy has more than 4,000 licensed beds among its 19 acute-care hospitals and one heart hospital in its service area of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. It also has a 900-physician integrated practice and a total of 29,500 employees. There are about 550 employees in the IT division.
Showalter comes to the job from the seven-hospital Fairview Health Services, Minneapolis, where he served as chief information officer. Kevin Morrison, the information systems director at Fairview will serve as interim CIO during the recruitment process, according to system spokesman Ryan Davenport.
