In reference to Andis Robeznieks' story HL7 criteria set, but will CCHIT adopt standards:Q: Why will Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology standards be more beneficial to small-to-medium company users and Health Level 7 be more important to hospitals and larger organizations?
Nancy Robinson, RNBaltimoreALIGN=RIGHT>
A: Hospitals have a long tradition of using HL7 standards to communicate data among their many different systems. Hence, a change in HL7 directly impacts hospitals.
Small clinician offices either have no automation or use few vendors (often a single vendor) for electronic medical records and practice management. Thus CCHIT's impact on their vendors will be greater than HL7's impact.
