James Morrow, a commissioner with the federally supported Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology, was named Wednesday as the recipient of the 2007 Physician IT Leadership Award by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society at its annual trade show in New Orleans. Morrow is a family practitioner with the 11-physician North Fulton Family Medicine, and manager of its office in Cumming, Ga.
In 2004, Morrow received the Nicholas E. Davies Ambulatory Care Award of Excellence, also from HIMSS.
Morrow is director of the Institute for Excellence in Medicine of the Medical Association of Georgia and is a member of a healthcare IT advisory panel of the Joint Commission. He is president and founder of a healthcare IT consulting firm, Health Care Quality, Technology & Research.
HIMSS President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Lieber said Morrow is "a physician leader and volunteer with HIMSS, who continues to share his knowledge and expertise with other physicians who want to make the transition from paper to digital records."
