Scam artists accessing personal information may be after more than your money. Instead of credit cards and bank records, these crooks want to use your medical identityand the results can be life-threatening.
Medical history and records can be altered to reflect the medical condition of the thief, spokeswoman Lauren Bozart said from Attorney General Tom Corbetts office in Harrisburg, Pa. Thats where the real danger can be, she said.
Often, the victims have no idea others are using their insurance or Medicare numbers until they are billed for services they didnt receive or are refused coverage for their own healthcare.
