SPRINGVILLE, N.Y.Bertrand Chaffee Hospital filed for Chapter 11 protection with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Buffalo. Hospital officials said in a news release that the 114-bed hospital and Jennie B. Richmond Chaffee Nursing Home just completed its fourth consecutive year of operating losses caused by a shift in services to a lower-paying outpatient setting; inadequate rate increases from the state and third-party payers; and a loss of physicians on staff. The hospital will remain open with no interruption in care, they said. We have looked at all of our alternatives and we believe a voluntary Chapter 11 filing offers the best course of action to protect our organizations future, said Timothy Horner, president of the board of directors, in the news release. The hospital listed less than $100 million in estimated assets and less than
$100 million in liabilities in papers filed with the bankruptcy court.
