Regarding your Feb. 7 item on Johns Hopkins losing computer tapes with patient data on them: I was involved in the debate over the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and data privacy at a national level for several years. I also have some experience with how Hopkins manages vendors who use sensitive data. It is very professional and serious about the issue.
It is unfortunate that it has had a privacy problem. If you see how it responds you may find a textbook solution to managing such problems.
My respect for Hopkins is only increased by their direct and honest response to such a problem.
