Methodist Healthcare System, San Antonio, Texas, said John Hornbeak will retire as its president and chief executive officer later this year. Hornbeak became administrator of Methodist Hospital in San Antonio in 1987 and president and CEO of the system in 1995. The system said it will begin a national search for Hornbeaks successor in late January and expects to have a short list of candidates by the end of March. A succession planning committee will recommend a candidate to the systems board of governors by the third quarter. Hornbeak intends to stay on until a successor is named and through a transition period. Methodist system is made up of seven hospitals and 15 other healthcare facilities in San Antonio and is a 50-50 partnership between the Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, San Antonio, and HCA, Nashville. -- by Jessica Zigmond
