Hawaii Medical Center, Honolulu, completed its $68 million acquisition of two hospitals on the island of Oahu from St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii, Honolulu. Hawaii Medical is a for-profit joint venture between Cardiovascular Hospitals of America, Wichita, Kan., and a group of 130 local physicians. The purchased hospitals -- 240-bed St. Francis Medical Center, Honolulu, and 102-bed St. Francis Medical Center-West, Ewa Beach -- will be renamed Hawaii Medical Center East and Hawaii Medical Center West, respectively. The deal was announced in June 2005. It required the approval of state regulators, the Justice Department and the Vatican. -- by Laura B. Benko
