Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise will for the first time move the U.S. version of its annual Connectathon testing event from the basement garage of the Radiological Society of North America in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Ill., to the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Chicago.
The Connectathon is Jan. 15-19, and more than 75 healthcare information technology vendors are expected to test more than 150 IT systems, a gathering at which data from specified use cases are exchanged between multiple vendors' systems. According to the IHE, the meeting "offers vendors a unique opportunity for connectivity testing, removing barriers to integration that would otherwise have to be dealt with on-site and at the customer's expense."
Thus far, there have been 19 Connectathons worldwide, eight each in North America and Europe since 1999 and three in Asia since 2004.
The IHE was founded in 1997 by the RSNA and the Chicago-based Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society and has been subsequently co-sponsored by the American College of Cardiology in Washington.
