Tyco Healthcare, Mansfield, Mass., to be spun off from Tyco International early this year, named 11 executives to what will be its newly independent board of directors. The appointments include four individuals with ties to the healthcare industry: Joseph Zaccagnino, 60, who retired as president and chief executive officer at Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health System and Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2005; Tadataka Yamada, 61, a physician and president of the global health program for the Gates Foundation; Jack Connors Jr., 64, chairman of eight-hospital Partners HealthCare System, Boston; and Richard Meelia, 57, Tyco Healthcares president and CEO. Dennis Reilley, 53, chairman of industrial manufacturer Praxair, will serve as the companys nonexecutive chairman. Tyco Healthcare, which had fiscal 2006 revenue of $9.6 billion, makes and sells medical instruments, disposable medical supplies, monitoring equipment and bulk analgesics. The board appointments become official as soon as the companys spinoff from its Bermuda-based parent is complete. -- by Laura B. Benko
