Wellness firm flexSCAN, Mission Viejo, Calif., named healthcare expert Jonathan Javitt to the newly created position of chief science adviser. Javitt, a physician and senior fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, Arlington, Va., was also appointed to flexSCANs board of directors.
Javitt has founded a number of healthcare-related companies, including ActiveHealth Management, a health-informatics and disease-management firm acquired by Aetna for $400 million in 2005. He was also chairman of the health subcommittee of the Presidents Information Technology Advisory Committee, as well as a director of Quality Systems, an Irvine, Calif.-based supplier of electronic medical records.
Founded in 2002, flexSCAN operates corporate health and wellness programs that are designed to save employers money by encouraging employees to adopt healthier lifestyles. In his new position, Javitt will help flexSCAN make decisions about its technology, such as interactive Web portals and personalized health records for members. -- By Laura B.
