The Federation of State Medical Boards, Dallas, won a three-year, $1 million federal grant for a telehealth initiative to improve how different jurisdictions share key licensing information about physicians. The federation, which oversees the 50 state medical boards, said the grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration will fund development of a centralized data-management system, providing state medical boards with immediate access to credentials confirming physicians qualifications to practice. The grant will be supplemented by about $787,000 in funding from other sources, including the federation and affiliated medical boards, a federation spokesman said. -- by Michael Romano
