Mark Palmer was named president and CEO of Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, where he was vice president of operations from 1995 to 1997. He succeeds James Collins, who moved to St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh. Since 2003, Palmer, 45, was at Alvarado Hospital Medical Center/San Diego Rehabilitation Institute. Prior to Alvarado, where he also was COO and administrator for four years, he was chief operations officer for two HCA hospitals: Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Ky., and JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Fla. Western Pennsylvania Hospital is part of the four-hospital West Penn Allegheny Health System. ... Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Okla., named Chris Hammes as president, effective Jan. 1, 2007. Hammes, 41, currently serves as the administrator for Integris Southwest Medical Center, and has been employed there for the past five years. Hammes has also served in several different capacities at Integris Health, including director of radiology, assistant vice president and vice president. ... Scott Rauch, a Massachusetts General Hospital psychiatrist and administrator, was appointed president and psychiatrist in chief of McLean Hospital in Belmont and chairman of Partners Psychiatry and Mental Health. Rauch, 46, replaces acting president Gary Gottlieb, president of Brigham and Women's Hospital. Gottlieb was filling in for Jack Gorman, who resigned in May for medical and personal reasons. ... Arthur Gianelli was named president and CEO of Nassau Health Care Corp. and its financially troubled Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y. Gianelli, 37, had been serving as acting chief of the public benefit corporation since June when Daniel Kane stepped down. Most recently, Gianelli had been deputy county executive for budget and finance in the administration of Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi.

Dennis Kain, has been promoted to executive vice president and COO for Tyler & Co., a healthcare executive search firm in Chadds Ford, Pa. Kain, 55, was formerly a senior vice president since 2000. The COO position is newly created.
The American Hospital Association named Linda Fishman its vice president of legislative affairs, replacing Anne Ubl, effective Oct. 30. Fishman, whose age was unavailable, most recently was director of the CMS' office of legislation. Ubl left in August in order to spend more time with her family, an AHA spokeswoman said.
