South Dakota has awarded $202,000 in federal grants to six rural
hospitals for efforts to improve patient safety.
The money comes from the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program,
which has provided $2 million to state hospitals over the past seven
The latest round of funding goes to hospitals in Faulkton, Huron,
Parkston, Platte, Wagner and Winner. To be eligible, hospitals must be
certified as critical-access hospitals. Those hospitals receive a
higher Medicare reimbursement rate and may use the federal grant money
to improve data systems and staff training.
