Health Level Seven, an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based healthcare information
standards organization, has named W. Ed Hammond incoming chairman and
elected or re-elected five board members at its annual meeting in Boca
Raton, Fla. Hammond is a professor emeritus and adjunct professor at Duke University. He was selected by the membership to serve as chairman in 2008-09. Hammond will serve as chairman-elect in 2007.
Freida Hall, standards architect for the U.S. Veterans Affairs
Department, was named secretary.Directors-at-large for 2007-2008 are: Robert Dolin, a Kaiser
Permanente physician; Wesley Rishel, vice president for research for
the company Gartner; Liora Alschuler, principal of Alschuler Associates;
and Jill Kaufman, program director for healthcare standards at IBM.
Current board members include Chairman Charles Meyer; Treasurer Bill
Braithwaite, M.D., vice president and chief medical officer for the
eHealth Initiative; Technical Steering Committee Chairman John Quinn, a principal at Accenture; and international representative Kai Heitmann, M.D., chair of
Directors-at-large include Hans Buitendijk, product
manager for Siemens Medical Solutions Health Services; Linda Fischetti,
R.N., acting chief health informatics officer and director of HealthePeople
for the Veterans Health Administration; Daniel Russler, M.D., vice
president of clinical informatics for Oracle Corp.; and Klaus Veil,
chairman HL7 Australia. HL7 sets standards for clinical and
