Estimated charitable contributions to U.S. healthcare institutions belonging to the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy grew a record 16% to $7.09 billion in fiscal 2005. Based on survey results, the AHP said, individuals provided 60% of the total funds raised; businesses, including corporate foundations, accounted for 18.2%; and other foundations supplied 12.7%. The association includes about 1,900 institutions in the U.S. and about 300 in Canada. Estimated charitable contributions to AHP members in Canada increased 11% to $1.2 billion. The estimates are based on responses from more than 300 institutions. The association said the total number of donors grew 4.6% and the number of gifts received rose 2.2%. -- by Cinda Becker
