The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has awarded a $1.99 million one-year contract with the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices to establish
the State Alliance for e-Health to identify, assess and map ways to
resolve state-level health IT issues that affect multiple states; to
increase the efficiency of health IT initiatives through collaboration;
and to resolve privacy and security issues, an NGA news release said.
Other issues the panel may explore include resolving state-law practice
of medicine barriers and governance and financial issues involving
state-level health information organizations, an ONCHIT news release
This project is a significant opportunity to create synergies between
national and state efforts, said NGA Chairwoman and Arizona Gov. Janet
Napolitano in the NGA release. Napolitano announced the creation of her
states Health-e Connection Steering Committee on Sept. 1, 2005.
