John Stobo will resign as president of the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, at the end of the medical school's current academic year, Aug. 31, 2007. Stobo, 65, says he is timing his departure so he can still be there when the state Legislature reconvenes next year. The medical branch, which includes seven hospitals and four schools, is running a deficit. It recently laid off 316 staff and 38 faculty members. ... Paul Dell Uomo has been named CEO of Jupiter (Fla.) Medical Center, effective Nov. 1. Dell Uomo, 58, most recently was president and CEO of Covenant Healthcare System in Milwaukee. He succeeds R. Michael Barry, who served as CEO since 1999 as part of a management contract with Brim Healthcare, an arrangement that ends Oct. 31. ... UNC Health Care, Chapel Hill, N.C., named Carol Straight CEO of Chatham Hospital in Siler City, N.C. Straight, 58, is a 31-year UNC employee, most recently working on physician relations and external affiliations. UNC Health Care took over management of Chatham this summer. She will oversee construction of a $19 million replacement hospital for Chatham, set to open in 2008. ... Darrell Moore has been named president and CEO of Parkridge Medical Center, Chattanooga, Tenn., effective Nov. 1. Moore, 53, replaces Jeff Fee, who left to become CEO of St. Patrick Hospital and Health Sciences Center in Missoula, Mont. Interim CEO Philip Cook will return to his role as CEO of Parkridge Valley Hospital. ... Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center has hired Thomas Marchozzi as CFO. Marchozzi, 45, was formerly vice president of finance at parent MedStar Health, Columbia, Md. Marchozzi replaces Leisa Russell, who resigned.
