Physician office employment grew by 13,600 workers, or 0.6%, in September to a total of 2.2 million, according to preliminary, seasonally adjusted data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That was the largest monthly gain reported since January 1996, the earliest month for which records are publicly available. Meanwhile,U.S. hospitals added 6,500 workers in September, bringing their total employment to 4.45 million, a 0.1% increase from August. For the 12 months ended in September, hospital employment was up 2% and physician office employment climbed 3.9%.
