The CMS will award $218 million in five-year grants to up to 10 state Medicaid programs to fund community-based alternatives to psychiatric residential treatment facilities for children. The CMS said it is soliciting proposals from state Medicaid agencies until Oct. 18 and will seek projects that involve collaboration with youths, families and various mental health and children's agencies. Of the total funding, $1 million will be set aside to evaluate the cost effectiveness of providing services in the community and programs' effect on improving or maintaining the functional level of participants.
