HealthSouth Corp., Birmingham, Ala., has delayed filing its second-quarter results and said it plans to file a report with the Securities and Exchange Commission by Aug. 14. In an SEC filing, the rehabilitation-services provider said it expects a pretax loss from continuing operations for the second quarter to be about $10 million to $20 million lower than its pretax loss in second quarter of 2005. At the same time, net revenue for the three months ended June 30 has decreased, primarily due to volume declines in HealthSouth's operating segments. The lower revenue has been offset by reduced expenses, the filing said. HealthSouth has not published information for the six months ended June 30, 2005, but said it will include quarterly and year-to-date information for 2005 in its report for the second quarter of 2006. Earlier this year, HealthSouth filed its first-quarter results late, citing financial-control and organizational issues stemming from its earlier massive accounting fraud. At deadline, a representative from HealthSouth was not available for comment. -- by Jessica Zigmond
