As a medical social worker, I am appalled at the idea of having my information floating around and being accessed by insurance companies and others who may not have my best interests at heart. We might as well start a running file on every person and put it out there for the entire world to review at their leisure. I feel that too much information is shared and used against the consumer at this time. I understand that it would be wonderful to have information on an emergency basis in life-threatening situations, but why can't people do something as simple as carry a list of their medications, surgeries, allergies and so on with them. What a concept; write it down! I don't want my doctor sharing everything with the insurance companies. I do like the idea of the doctor putting my symptoms into a computer and having it tell him what might be wrong with me.
