Sunrise Senior Living, McLean, Va., agreed to buy Trinity Hospice, Dallas, for about $71 million in a deal expected to close later this year. The purchase marks Sunrise's entry into the fast-growing U.S. hospice market, which soared to 3,650 programs in 2004 from about 2,300 a decade earlier, according to industry data. Trinity operates 24 hospice programs in nine states and is expected to report about $60 million in revenue in 2006. Sunrise said over the next several years it plans to expand Trinity's operations into markets where Sunrise has a significant number of communities. Sunrise operates 422 senior-living communities in 37 U.S. states, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. -- by Jessica Zigmond
