The Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems has announced that five individuals and three healthcare groups are the winners of the group's annual awards for outstanding achievement in applied medical informatics.
The winners are:• Richard S. Dick, Ph.D., CEO, You Take Control, Alpine, Utah• Cort Garrison, M.D., medical director of informatics, Salem Hospital Regional Health Services, Salem, Ore. • Eric A. Pifer, M.D., chief medical informatics officer and assistant professor of medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia• Michael Russell, M.D., associate chief information officer, associate professor and practicing pulmonologist, Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C.• Neal Seidberg, M.D., SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, N.Y.• Covenant HealthCare Team, Saginaw, Mich. • Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic• Piedmont Healthcare, Statesville, N.C.
All nominees, whether an individual or healthcare team, are judged similarly, according to Rich Rydell, AMDIS president and executive director. This year the association received more than 60 nominations. Judges are looking to determine "Are they worthy of special recognition for excellence and successful achievements in applied medical informatics?" Rydell said in an e-mail.
The AMDIS awards will be presented at the 15th annual Physician-Computer Connection Symposium July 19-21 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego.
