Humana, Louisville, Ky., agreed to acquire provider-owned CHA Health, Lexington, Ky., for undisclosed terms. The deal, which will add 96,000 members to Humana's commercial business, is subject to state and federal approval. University of Kentucky HealthCare owns 84% of the 15-year-old health plan. The system said it intends to focus on its core mission of providing medical care and will use its share of proceeds toward the planned construction of a new $130 million patient tower. Humana has about 7 million members, including 590,000 in Kentucky. Other CHA Health shareholders include Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Lexington; Mary Chiles Hospital, Mount Sterling, Ky.; Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Ky.; Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center, Richmond, Ky.; Rockcastle Hospital and Respiratory Care Center, Mount Vernon, Ky.; St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas, Ky.; and St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, Ky.
