Tara Hospital, Brownsville, Pa., formerly Brownsville General Hospital, said it "could not continue to function as an acute-care hospital" and will file for bankruptcy. Chief Executive Officer Harry Cancelmi said in a news release that the hospital still plans to file to reorganize but warned that "the hope that Tara could reorganize and continue has dramatically waned." Earlier this month, Tara gave up its provisional hospital license and closed, citing financial problems and a deteriorating relationship with employees. A local medical group bought the hospital last year and converted it to a for-profit. Tara had operating losses of more than $8 million during the previous five years, officials said. -- by Cinda Becker
