Consumers in New Mexico can now compare the quality of hospitals around the state on a new Web site launched by the New Mexico Hospitals and Health Systems Association.
The site shows information on how often each hospital provides recommended care for several of the most frequently treated conditions. The information on the site was provided by all but one of the state's hospitals. The association said the last hospital had technical difficulties and is expected to participate soon.
The system measures how often hospitals perform 14 practices that have been shown to produce the best results for patients. The practices relate to common causes of hospitalization, such as heart attacks, congestive heart failure and pneumonia. The site will offer more information in the future, such as financial and billing information as well as infection information.
