Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence, R.I., its chief executive officer and two other executives pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court, Providence, to mail fraud and conspiracy charges stemming from alleged bribes to a former state lawmaker. The individual defendants -- CEO Robert Urciuoli, who is on paid administrative leave; Frances Driscoll, a former senior vice president; and Peter Sangermano, who ran an assisted living facility affiliated with Roger Williams -- were released on $10,000 unsecured bonds. A court clerk said a pretrial hearing with attorneys has been scheduled for Feb. 15. The state lawmaker, John Celona, pleaded guilty last year to mail fraud and is cooperating with the investigation. -- by Joseph Mantone
