LifePoint Hospitals, Brentwood, Tenn., said it agreed to sell 77-bed Medical Center of Southern Indiana, Charlestown, and 123-bed Ashland (Pa.) Regional Medical Center to St. Catherine Healthcare. Terms were not disclosed, and no information about the buyer was immediately available. The deal, expected to close by March 31, would complete LifePoint's plan to divest three hospitals acquired in its April 2005 purchase of the former Province Healthcare Co. Effective Dec. 31, 2005, LifePoint returned the third hospital -- 35-bed Palo Verde Hospital, Blythe, Calif. -- to the Hospital District of Palo Verde, which had leased the facility to Province. LifePoint owns or operates 52 hospitals in 20 states, excluding the two hospitals in the pending sale. -- by Vince Galloro
