Healthcare quality and certification consultant Alisa Ray has been named as the first executive director of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology, the organization charged by HHS to develop certification criteria for electronic health records.
Mark Leavitt, M.D., will continue in his role as CCHIT chairman, while Ray will manage business operations and develop staff and resources. Ray most recently worked with the National Committee for Quality Assurance as an independent consultant and as assistant vice president of certification and information products. In this role, she helped launch NCQA's HEDIS software certification program and helped with its efforts to certify software that complied with and supported the NCQA Diabetes Recognition Program standards.
She has also worked as a senior research associate at the American Association of Health Plans managing its initiatives in outcomes research, quality improvement and clinical performance measurement. "Her 12 years of experience in healthcare quality and certification programs will help tremendously as we move forward to offer product certification beginning in March of this year," Leavitt said in a news release.
