Modern Physician turns into an electronic monthly magazine
Welcome to the new Modern Physician! The healthcare industry's leading source of business news and information for physician-executives, leaders and entrepreneurs is now a monthly electronic magazine. The changes in frequency (to monthly from quarterly) and in format (to electronic from print) will enable us to deliver a more timely analysis of the news and trends affecting the physician businessman and businesswoman.
Each issue of the new Modern Physician will feature an exclusive cover story; an expansive business news section; an op-ed well of editorials, letters and commentaries; an in-depth special report or feature dissecting the latest business trend for business-minded physicians; a By the Numbers section filled with useful statistics, rankings and financial figures; and a News Makers section chronicling the comings and goings of physician-executives, leaders and entrepreneurs.
In this issue's cover story, frequent Modern Physician contributor Jay Greene predicts a financially uncertain year ahead for physician group practices and their physician owners. Rising costs, flat revenue and the potential of increased bad debt from patients with high-deductible health plans may weigh heavily on the bottom lines of physician practices, according to Greene.
That, in turn, may prompt many practices to seek new sources of capital for medical and information technology, and those sources may include new business ventures.
Speaking of business ventures, four physician groups in Rhode Island have formed a for-profit corporation to assist fellow physicians in comparing, selecting, installing and operating the latest information technologies. You can read about these enterprising physicians in this issue's Special Report by reporter Joseph Conn on Page 10.
Those pieces are just two of the many stories in this issue that will help physicians move from the clinical world to the business world.
Our readers' information demands are changing, and we're changing with them. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about the new Modern Physician, please contact me at [email protected], or 312-649-5439.
