Humana, Louisville, Ky., acquired behavioral-health company Corphealth, Fort Worth, Texas, for $54 million in cash. Privately held CorpHealth serves 2 million members through a network of 22,000 behavioral healthcare providers. Humana said the deal would have no material effect on its 2006 earnings but would ultimately "enhance results from existing disease-management and population health initiatives." Separately, Humana said it expects its Medicare enrollment to more than triple to 1.7 million members by Jan. 1, from 503,000 members at the end of September, because of growth in its existing Medicare Advantage plans and the launch of Humana's new Medicare prescription-drug plans. The 7 million-member insurer said it expects its Medicare enrollment to reach between 2.6 million and 3.3 million members by the end of 2006, and its Medicare business to bring in about half of its projected $20 billion in revenue next year.-- by Laura B.
