The recently announced divesture by Siemens AG of an information technology business unit will not affect the company's healthcare operations, a company spokeswoman said today.
Molly Grasso, media relations manager of healthcare IT at Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Malvern, Pa., said the move by the Munich, Germany-based parent company to transfer an IT business unit to Fujitsu Siemens Computer, a joint venture with Japanese electronics giant Fujitsu Ltd, "is not pertaining to Siemens Medical Solutions' IT business" and will have "no impact" on the company's medical business.
The companies announced Wednesday that the joint venture would acquire the international Product Related Services Division of Siemens Business Services as of April 1, 2006. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. The Siemens unit, which provides IT services, has about 5,000 employees in 28 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa, according to the company.
